CICADA SAFARI PRIVACY POLICY

GENERAL
Your privacy is important to us. It is also important to the Cicada Research Project
that some of the information which you share be public domain and available for
public use. This Computing privacy policy is intended to balance both of these
needs and to give you confidence using our mobile application.

COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
When you use our application, you may be asked for personally identifiable
information such as your name, location, year of birth, email address, telephone
number, and social media information. You may also be asked to turn on location
services and geolocation recording on photos to be uploaded. By giving us such
information, you consent to our using it in the manner described in this policy.

USE OF UPLOADED INFORMATION
You agree that all photos (“Photos”) and cicada sighting reports (“Reports”) which
you upload to Cicad Safari will be public domain and waive all copyright and moral
rights in them, with a view to allowing for their unrestricted use by all, with no
limitations. It is understood that Reports include your chosen username, photos,
location where the photos were taken, your location, timestamp and any comments
which you added to the Report. All of this information will be available in the public
domain, for use and re-use both by us and third parties, to be used without
restriction. You may thus wish to select a username which cannot be linked to your
identity, or not to make Reports at all. Your name, year of birth, email address and
phone number will not be released publicly, though they may be shared with our
research team in order to enable them to contact you regarding the Report or for
other cicada-related purposes. Your name, year of birth and email address will not
be used for purposes not related to application functionality and security, cicada
research and legal compliance. Your social media information, if provided, will be
used to connect with your social media account, and thus may indirectly link you to
your Reports.

USE OF PERFORMANCE DATA
We may compile and use performance data, including performance statistics, bug
fixes and other similar data (“Performance Data”) in any way, including, but not
limited to, using, editing, altering, reproducing, publishing and/or distributing the
Performance Data for any purpose, academically or otherwise, provided that such
Performance Data is stripped of all personally identifiable information.

USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
We use personal information to allow us to process your requests, to provide
access to privileged areas of the application, to personalize your visit to our
application, websites, to enable our research team to contact you regarding your
Reports and other cicada-related purposes, or to enable us to improve the products
and services we offer.

DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
Photos, Reports and your username will be released publicly and will be in the
public domain. Your name, year of birth, email address and phone number
(“Personal Information”) will not be released publicly, but may be provided to our
employees and/or research team in order to administer any accounts, to conduct
research and to inquire about your Reports or other cicada-related purposes. We
will not disclose your Personal Information to third parties unless you have
consented to such disclosure or where we are required to do so by law. Should you
breach our terms and conditions or terms of use or if we are under a duty to
disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation, we
may disclose your information to a relevant authority. This may include exchanging
information with other companies and organizations for the purposes of fraud
protection. Any disclosure of personal information will be strictly controlled and
made fully in accordance with current U.S. law.
